How the check works
Your browser reports the name of the graphics chip it draws with, and we match that name against our list of cards. Browsers do not always tell the truth here: laptops with two graphics chips often report the built-in one, Safari only says "Apple GPU", and Firefox can hide the name entirely. That is why the tool always asks you to confirm the card.
The browser never reports how much video memory a card has, and many cards were sold with more than one memory size. So when it matters, we ask. The verdicts use the memory you choose, never a guess.
Some vendors state their requirement as a benchmark score rather than a list of cards. We do not copy benchmark databases, so when a verdict depends on a score we say "Check score" and link to your card on PassMark instead of pretending to know. Where a vendor names cards outright, the verdict for those cards is definite.

- Is a laptop graphics card enough for architectural rendering?
- Often, yes, but a laptop chip usually runs slower than the desktop card with the same name, and it has less power to work with. Pick the laptop version of your card in the list so the check uses the right memory size, and treat "Meets minimum" on a laptop as the floor rather than a comfortable margin.
- Why does the tool say my graphics card is Intel UHD or Iris?
- Many laptops have two graphics chips and the browser reports the power-saving one built into the processor. Your renderer will use the dedicated card if you have one, so choose "No, pick my card" and select it.
- Why does it ask how much video memory my card has?
- Browsers do not report it, and cards such as the RTX 3060 or RTX 4060 Ti were sold in two memory sizes. Video memory decides several verdicts, so the check asks rather than assumes.
- What does "Check score" mean?
- The vendor states that requirement as a PassMark benchmark score and does not name your card. We link to your card on PassMark so you can compare it with the score the vendor asks for.
- Where do the requirements come from?
- From each vendor’s own system requirements page. Every verdict has a "Why?" link that shows the page, the sentence it rests on and the date we last checked it. We re-read the pages every month.
- Can I run these renderers without a powerful graphics card?
- Enscape, D5, Twinmotion and Lumion all render on your own graphics card, so they need one that meets their minimum. Browser-based rendering such as VisioMake runs on remote hardware instead, from a screenshot of your model.
