Nano Banana Pro Now Generates at 4K โ€” And When It's Actually Worth It

Resolution is the least glamorous setting in any generation tool and one of the easiest to get wrong in both directions. Ask for too little and a render that looked fine on screen falls apart the moment a client opens it full-screen or you drop it into a printed board. Ask for too much on every generation and you spend nearly twice the credits for pixels nobody ever looks at.

Nano Banana Pro โ€” Google's Gemini 3 Pro Image, and the model behind most of the photoreal interior work on Visiomake โ€” now takes an explicit output size: 1K, 2K or 4K. This is a short guide to which one to reach for, written for people who put renders in front of paying clients.

What actually changed

Nano Banana Pro previously generated at whatever Google's default was โ€” effectively 1K โ€” with no way to ask for anything else. There is now a size control on text-to-image, with three options:

  • 1K โ€” the old behaviour. Fine for thumbnails, mood exploration, and anything headed straight for a social feed.
  • 2K โ€” the new default, and the right answer for most client-facing work.
  • 4K โ€” roughly four times the width of 1K, which is about sixteen times the pixel count. Available on paid accounts.

The default matters more than it sounds. Every image tool on the platform now defaults to 2K rather than silently taking Google's 1K, so the baseline quality of a generation you don't think about has gone up.

Pricing follows the size rather than a flat per-image rate: 1K and 2K both cost 35 credits, and 4K costs 63 credits. That gap is the whole decision โ€” 2K is free relative to 1K, so there is no reason to drop to 1K for quality-sensitive work, while 4K costs you about 1.8 generations for every one.

What the extra resolution actually buys you

Three things, and they are all situations where someone looks at the image closer than you did when you approved it.

Print

This is the clearest case. At the standard 300 DPI for printed material, a 1K image covers roughly 8โ€“9 cm on the page โ€” smaller than a postcard. The 4K setting takes the same image past 30 cm, which is the difference between a thumbnail in a specification document and a full-bleed image on an A3 presentation board. If the render is going to a printer, the decision is made for you.

Crops

Interior work is full of images that get used twice: the full room for the concept board, and a tight crop of one corner for a material callout or a social post. Every crop throws away pixels. Cropping to a quarter of a 4K frame still leaves you roughly a 2K image; the same crop from a 1K original leaves you something you would not send to a client. Generating at 4K is effectively buying yourself the option to crop later without regenerating.

Client zoom

Clients pinch-zoom. They will zoom into the sofa fabric you spent an hour prompting, and at 1K they will find mush where the weave should be. Fine repeating textures โ€” bouclรฉ, rattan, linen, stone veining, wood grain โ€” are exactly what falls apart first, and exactly what clients inspect to judge whether a material choice reads as convincing.

What 4K will not fix

It is worth being blunt, because resolution gets blamed for a lot of problems it has nothing to do with.

4K will not fix composition. A badly framed room is a badly framed room at any pixel count, and rendering it larger only makes the framing more obvious. It will not fix a weak prompt: if the lighting reads flat or the proportions are wrong, more pixels render the same mistakes more precisely. It will not fix the structural errors that get renders sent back โ€” the six-legged chair, the window that opens onto nothing, the radiator floating two centimetres off the wall. Those are generation problems, not resolution problems, and they are usually cheaper to solve with a better reference image or a targeted edit than with a bigger render. If your renders are coming back with notes, the reasons architectural renders get rejected are almost never about output size.

It is also not a substitute for upscaling an existing image. If you already have a render you like at a lower resolution, regenerating it at 4K gives you a different image, not a larger version of the one you approved โ€” the model does not reproduce a previous generation pixel for pixel. To enlarge something you have already signed off on, upscaling a low-resolution render is the correct tool and keeps the composition you agreed on.

When 2K is the right call

Most of the time, honestly. 2K costs the same as 1K, so it is the sensible floor for anything a client will see, and it is comfortably enough for screen presentation, PDF decks, web pages, and social posts. On a laptop or a phone, a 2K image and a 4K image are indistinguishable โ€” the browser scales both down to the same pixels, and the extra data is discarded before it reaches the screen.

A workflow that wastes nothing looks roughly like this: explore at 2K, because iteration is where the credits actually go and you are judging composition and light rather than thread count. Once a frame is approved, regenerate the keeper at 4K if it is going to print, to a large-format board, or into a crop. That way you pay the premium once per final image instead of once per experiment.
